Terror Alert Fears Materialize In Thailand

On Friday, YWN reported the arrest of a Lebanese national affiliated with Hizbullah of planning an attack in Thailand. This news came amid travel warnings issued by Israel’s National Security Council Counter-Terrorism Bureau, the US and other countries.

On Monday, local police report uncovering 400 boxes of bomb-making equipment, which they believe is directly related to the area terror threat. The bomb-making components were hidden in boxes for fans, located just outside of Bangkok. Israel Radio added that the bomb making materials cache has officials worried, lending additional credibility to the terror warnings.

Police confiscated more than 8,800 pounds of urea fertilizer and several gallons of liquid ammonium nitrate during the raid of a warehouse in Samut Sakhon, on the western outskirts of Bangkok.

“I’d like to tell people not to panic. The situation is under control. There is no problem,” Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra told reporters, adding that security was increased and intelligence agencies were closely following the situation. “We can assure the safety of the (Thai) people and foreign tourists.”

The suspect in custody, Attis Hussein is quoted as telling police the contents of the 400 boxes were not for use inside the country, but they were intended to be shipped to another country.

Israel and the United States have not canceled their terror warnings for that country.
