Five right-wing activists were taken in for questioning on Tuesday during a protest outside the Russian Compound detention center. They were demonstrating the arrests and continued detention of six suspects allegedly “spying on security forces”, a charge which settler representatives insist is baseless, and a poor excuse to keep people behind bars. They have been in jail for over a week. About 70 persons took part in the protest.
Kol Chai Radio reports on Tuesday evening that the six people in custody were remanded again today, for another five days. Honenu human rights officials responded by saying “there is no democracy in Israel”.
Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court Justice Shimon Feinberg issued a unique ruling, prohibiting any protests outside the court within 100 meters of the building as to avoid any disturbances during the court proceeding.
