The Monticello Police Department has released the following statement regarding the stolen Sefer Torah – which was first reported on Motzei Shabbos by YWN:
Monticello police are currently investigating a burglary that occurred at the Landfield avenue synagogue in the village of Monticello. The burglary occurred sometime between 4 p.m. Friday 12/30/11 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday 12/31/11.
Entry to the synagogue appeared to have been gained through a rear window. Several offices were ransacked and the “SEFER TORAH” was stolen. The torah was described as having a blue mantel on it.
Anyone with information about this incident or the whereabouts of the stolen torah is asked to call Monticello police at 845-794-4422 or 845-791-T.I.P.S.
The New York state police are assisting Monticello police in the investigation.
