Brooklyn state senator Carl Kruger has resigned in the wake of a federal corruption case.
He wrote a letter of resignation to the Secretary of the Senate today.
It’s effective immediately.
Kruger was reportedly ready to enter a plea today to four of the five charges against him, including fraud and bribery conspiracy.
The fraud charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
Kruger, a Democrat, is accused of accepting up to $1 million in bribes in order to help green-light several projects for lobbyists and business people and allocating funds for others.
A felony conviction would have forced him to resign his senate seat.
