FDNY EMT Allegedly Stole Cash From Undercover Investigator While On Call In An Apartment

An emergency medical technician was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing money during an undercover integrity test.

Officials at the Department of Investigation say Donald Vasquez of Brooklyn stole $280 Tuesday from an undercover investigator posing as an injured patient.

According to the criminal complaint, video surveillance showed Vasquez, 35, stealing money from a wallet and an envelope in an apartment.

He is charged with official misconduct, petit larceny and more.

The integrity test came after a theft allegation.

“It’s just taking advantage of a position that’s supposed to be of service to the public. And instead the charges here are really quite the opposite,” said DOI Commissioner Rose Gill Hearn.

“We hope that this member will be exonerated, but if it is, the fire department has very harsh measures available to deal with this,” said Bob Unger of the Uniformed EMS Officers Union.

Vasquez has been an EMT since 2004.

He has been suspended from his duties and faces disciplinary action.
