A 70-year-old woman was seriously burned on Friday night R”L, an incident involving Shabbos candles.
The victim sustained burns over 75% of her body. She was treated by Paramedics from Kiryas Yoel Hatzolah, and transported to the Westchester Medical Center by chopper. A non-Jewish home assistant who was present was also injured, albeit lightly.
The tzibur is requested to daven for Zisel Rochel bas Hindel.

Shabbos candles that are sold today are made much more cheaply (usually in china) than years ago. They burn hotter and as such are more likely to result in fires.
Over the past few years stories of shabbos candle fires have become more common. There two reasons. Families are larger and together with the custom of an additional candle for each child you have a marge larger heat source. Add to this the additional heat of these cheaper candles and you have the ingredients for tragedy.
