Congressman Turner Condemns Acts Of Hate On Ocean Parkway

Congressman Turner released the following statement to YWN condemning the recent acts of hate that took place last night in Brooklyn.

“I have been a member of this community my entire life and know that it is one of tolerance and understanding; A community that prides itself on its rich Jewish history and interfaith cooperation. New York is a tremendous melting pot of people of all races and faiths and we are proud of that tradition. It is difficult to believe that there are still people out there who wish to spread a message of ignorance and hatred.

“These anti-Semitic acts of vandalism and arson are appalling and unacceptable. We cannot allow acts like this to take place in our communities. The individuals who did this should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

  1. Congressman Turner lives in Breezy Point, a gated community with virtually no Jews. How can he go to Ocean Parkway and say “I have been a member of this community my entire life?”

  2. Mr. Turner says, “These anti-Semitic acts of vandalism and arson are appalling and unacceptable . . . ”

Better than the Mayor’s generic comments where he could/would not use the term anti-semitic to describe Friday’s crime (see YWN post with the Mayor’s statement).

Non-Jews apparently have a less difficult time recognizing Jews’ chosenness than do Jews themselves. As many previous posts have pointed out, when we forget “Atah b’chartanu” the nations of the world remind us r”l.
