Occupy Wall Street Protesters To Erect Larger Tents In Zuccotti Park

The Occupy Wall Street protesters are going big tent.

They’ve tentatively decided to swap out many of the numerous little tents that have dotted Zuccotti Park in favor of much larger tents that will house more people.

As it is, the smaller tents that were set up were against the rules of the park. No word yet on how the owners of the owners of the park will respond to the larger tents.

Previously, the Fire Department moved into the park to confiscate generators and gas canisters put in place as temperatures dropped.

Separately, hundreds of protesters marched from Washington Heights to Zuccotti Park today – roughly 11 miles – in an effort to drum up support and involve folks from other parts of the city. Later tonight, they are planning an “Occupy Harlem” event, with the tagline “You say gentrify, we say occupy.”

“Our communities have been devastated by the economic assault on middle class and poor families, even as Wall Street has enjoyed a historic financial bonanza,” said State Senator Adriano Espaillat, according to the Occupy Wall Street website. “We are marching together because we want to stand up for the 99% who have been left behind in this economy and build a stronger society that works for all Americans, not just the select few.”
