Mishkolitz Rebbe: Attacking Iran Is Unnecessary

As a possible Israeli military strike against Iran continues to dominate the news, the Mishkolitz Rebbe, HaRav Sholom Berger Shlita, has come out with an opinion as well, announcing that a strike against Iran is unnecessary since Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is about to fall from power in any event.

The Rebbe explains he learns this from the story of Haman, explaining when Am Yisrael is far from Torah, and Hashem wants to bring us back and create achdus, he brings someone like Haman. When Hashem sees us divided, lacking achdus, he brings a Haman.

Haman did nothing despite the fact he did not want to but what he did do is create achdus among Am Yisrael and a return to keeping Torah and Mitzvos.

The Rebbe calls for bringing an end to the factions, to love one another, to embrace one another, to increase adherence to Torah and Mitzvos, and this he explains is the best way to counter the Iranian threat. He explains one we react as we should, then the job of a Haman is complete and he will vanish.

  1. By the way, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad YMS”V, really has no power. It is really the Supreme Religious Leader Aytila Khommani (donKt know how to spell it) who runs Iran. Ahmadinejad and Khommani have not been getting along recently.
Either way, if Ahmadinejad goes, it dosen’t really change anything.

  2. There are numerous matters that are of issue in the “Frum” community to discuss: Divorce rates, Teens-at-risk, dysfunctional families, Yungerlite that have no skills to work, taking endless funds from Government programs to stay afloat…matters that are never discussed openly lest we taint our “Sacred Name”. In that vain, with all due respect it should be obvious not to delve into “Military Prophecy” with little to no knowledge of the facts on the ground. Very Concerning article.

  3. To Reaction: Maybe the ba’alei batim, some of whom have no skills to learn, are as big, or bigger, an issue as yungerleit who have no skills to work. Are we as concerned about this group as well? Do you really believe the world would be a better place if the batei medras emptied. In Europe, where far fewer individuals were privaledged to learn much past Chumash or Mishnayos, all workers spent countless hours in Beis Medrash. There was the Chevrah Ein Yaakov, the Chevrah Mishnayos, the Chevrah Shas, the Tehilim Yidden, the Chok Yidden. With your suggestion the only chevra left would be the chevra kaddisha. Also may I refer you to the Gemorah in Makos (10a) “Omdos hayu ragleinu, bisharayich Yerushalayim”. On which thr Gemora says, Mi garam l’ragleinu she’yaamdu b’milchamah? Sha’arei Yerushalayim, she’hayu oskim ba’Torah. Be careful what you wish for.

  4. #1 is absolutely right. It’s really Ayatollah Ali Khamenei YMS”V who’s in charge of Iran and is seeking a nuclear bomb. He was trying to build a bomb before Ahmadinejad YMS”V became the figure head “president” and will continue after Ahmadinejad leaves power or is disposed of. While the Rebbe is right that we should increase our achdus and Torah observance, I would question where he gets his information on current events from.

  5. Add
The very shulchon arch you quote was never learned by most bale batim. Sadly most bale batim just attend a daf yomi shiur to be “yotzei” they hardly learn anything and walk away with very little. What happened to balei batim who spend 3 hours in a basis midrash in the early morning or at night?

You should see what the Chazon ish writes as the requirement of hours for all working men to learn a day (some kollel people don’t learn that much!)

  6. While I cannot disagree with the Rabbi saying that we should increase our study of Torah and performing Mitzvot, I do disagree with his comparison of today’s political situation to the story of Haman. In biblical times nuclear weaponry did not exist and man to man combat was the normal method of warfare. We are living in different times – not necessarily better times, but definitely different ones.
