TRAFFIC ALERT – NYC Marathon On Sunday


The marathon runners may be the only ones moving at a brisk pace around the city tomorrow.

Dozens of streets and bridges throughout the five boroughs will be closed, and more than 30 buses will be delayed due to rerouting.

The Willis Avenue and Madison Avenue bridges will be shut down from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the lower level of the Queensboro Bridge will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the Pulaski Bridge will be shut from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Staten Island, where the marathon begins at 9 a.m., the upper level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed from midnight to 3 p.m. and the lower level from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(Come 11 p.m. on Saturday, crews will prep the start line and close the upper level of the Verrazano Bridge in both directions, followed by the entire Verrazano Bridge at 7 a.m. on Sunday. The Verrazano isn’t scheduled to reopen till at least 3 p.m.)

No buses will be allowed to cross the upper half of Fifth Avenue in Manhattan during the race. The Central Park transverses at 79th, 86th and 96th streets will be closed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the 65th Street transverse will be available to buses only.

The Brooklyn street closures, including a long stretch of Fourth Avenue, will begin to be closed at 8:20 a.m. and reopen between noon and 2. In Queens, closing begins at 9:30 a.m. and reopenings are expected by 3. In The Bronx, the last street should be reopened by 4 p.m., and in Manhattan by 5 p.m.

Street closings include the southbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to 79th Street in Brooklyn.

The following areas will be closed to the general public; barricades will be in place, and drivers should expect delays:

•Pine Street between Broadway and Nassau St.
•Exchange Place between Broadway and Broad St.
•New Street between Beaver and Wall streets

Also, the New York City Marathon will close many streets across the five boroughs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday:

•    Bay Street between Richmond Terrace and School Road
•    School Road between Bay Street and Staten Island Expressway

Brooklyn

•    Dahlgren Place between Verrazano Bridge and 92nd Street (North Bound)

  1. Can someone knowledgeable in geography tell me how I can get from Lakewood to downtown Brooklyn tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.? I really must get there and hope someone can guide me as to how.
