New Effort To Combat Sikrikim & Their Negative Influence

It appears that there are some residents of the Meah Shearim and Geula community that are unwilling to continue sitting back and accepting the presence of the sikrikim as a de facto part of their lives, announcing that they have created a committee that will represent the residents in the battle to rid themselves of these unwanted hoodlums. The recent violence seems to have been the last straw, compelling the community to act.

It appears the askanim who will be members of the vaad are respected in the community and therefore, the vaad will truly represent residents and act in the interest of the tzibur. The committee hopes to also address issues pertaining to Egged and bus service in Meah Shearim.

Kikar Shabbat quotes one askan anonymously, stating “We are fed up and no longer willing to permit a small group to tarnish our name. We are dealing with no more than 20 crazies”.

Efforts over recent days to make the vaad all-inclusive reveal there will be representatives of Gur, Karlin, Breslov (Shavu Banim), Belz, Toldos Aaron included in the committee. Despite the optimism, some residents questions are a bit more pessimistic, and while they try to remain hopeful, they believe removing the sikrikim from the community will be more difficult than anticipated.

According to a Kikar Shabbat report, the vandalism attack against the weekly Eida newspaper office is not related to the sikrikim, but an internal dispute inside the weekly publication.

  1. Can someone please explain to me who or what these sikrikim are? Are they affiliated with any specific chassidus? Do they represent any specific hashkafa? Do they have any sopecific goal/s?

  2. It’s high time. Why do Frum Yidden have to look bad in the eyes of the Freye and Goyim because we have a few Meshugoyim amongst us?!?

  3. ainohdmilvado search on YWN “sikrikim” and you will find all that they have done. including gluing the door of one of the sons of the Gerrer Rebbe Shlita closed ON HOSHANA RABBA ITSELF!!!

  4. #6 ‘boy from london’…

Yes, I have read about these acts already. My question IS: Who are these people? Who or what do they represent? WHY are they doing these things? Do they have some sort of hashkafic machlokes with their victims, or are they just stam criminals masquerading as chareidim?

  5. Sikrikim are a group of people, not unlike the wallstreet occupiers, the difference between the 2 is that sikrikim go under the pretext of religion, while occupiers are under the pretext of “justice for all”, but perhaps the more alarming difference is that the sikrikim are unchecked, and carry out their actions almost completely unhindered. I do not know if they are from one select group of yiddishkeit, or just a bunch of “CRAZIES” who found each other. I know of one individual,he is wild and violent, does not learn or pray with a minyan on the pretext of “theres not enough ppl with “DEI’OT K’SHEIROT”, makes a living by collecting money (of course there he is not so frum about from who he collects), caries a gas gun, expresses his desire to see all “zionists” die, and constantly instigates vandalism, and he is just 25!! (and married with a kid). The above should give you a general idea of who they are.
