MK Dr. Ahmed Tibi on Sunday, 2 Cheshvan, visited Fatah Tanzim faction leader Marwan Barghouti, who is serving five life sentences in Hadarim Prison.
Following the visit, the member of Knesset explained that Barghouti “remains unwilling to surrender to the Israeli occupation”.
It is reported that Barghouti called on Tibi to keep the issue of prisoners atop the national agenda, speaking of the new “sanctions” against the terrorists imprisoned in Israel. In actuality he was referring to the removal of privileges that have been given to terrorists until recently.
From Tibi’s perspective, this is a clear case of discrimination, explaining that the “Palestinian prisoners”, i.e. the terrorists, are discriminated against as compared to Jewish prisoners who also engaged in acts of terror.
Tibi told the media that Barghouti is not a terrorist, but a freedom fighter, and he should be released from prison since his rightful place is in the political system, not in prison. He told reporters that Barghouti is continuing his battle on behalf of his people towards the establishment of a Palestinian state.
