Libel Suit Filed Against Meah Shearim’s Hirschman

A libel suit was filed in the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court against Avraham Moshe Hirschman of Meah Shearim by Elazar Vigdrovsky, a Gerrer Chossid represented by attorney Elkana Bishitz.

Hirschman is accused of being a leader in the Meah Shearim Sikrikim, who was beaten by a number of Gerrer Chassidim last week in the ongoing dispute surrounding the hekdesh and the homes in Batei Warsaw.

According to the plaintiff, the defendant made baseless accusations against him during interviews with the media, with attorney Bishitz explaining his client is an avreich in kollel and that is all he does. The suit details Hirschson’s affiliation with the so-called Sikrikim faction and the extremist behavior of these people as well as they role in damaging personal property of many, not to mention the physical violence associated with them.

The lawsuit quotes the defendant in his interview with a number of media agencies, specifically using the name of the plaintiff. The document also cites that by repeatedly mentioning his clients name in association with the despicable events, he has effectively made him a target for Sikrikim revenge attacks, to “lynch him”.

The defendant has yet to respond to the suit.

  1. 1. There should be a Beis Din to settle this.

    2. This is why American law, wisely or not, prohibits defamation actions against public figures, which includes community leaders.

  2. “Beis Din” is NOT an option in this case. Any Dayan that will sit on this Beis Din (if you ever find one) will be harassed by these Sikrikim. They have done so in the past. The legal system via Court is obviously the ONLY option.

This will answer all those that cry “Bais Din” – “Bais Din”. Period.
