The so-called “underwear bomber” entered a guilty plea Wednesday, saying he was trying to retaliate for the killing of Muslims around the world.
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab appeared in a Detroit court where he pled guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit terrorism and attempted murder.
He was accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound flight on Christmas Day of 2009 with a bomb hidden in his underwear.
The bomb didn’t work, but Abdulmutallab was badly burned.
He later told the FBI that he was working for al-Qaida in Yemen.
The Nigerian man told the court that the bomb was a “blessed weapon to save the lives of innocent Muslims.”
