Boro Park Shomrim patrolling the streets of Boro Park were shocked when they came across a 2-year-old boy strolling the street just before 3:00AM on Motzei Yom Kippur.
A Shomrim spokesperson tells BoroParkScoop.com that the toddler was found on 14th Avenue and 54th Street, and a large search effort to locate the parents was put into place. The NYPD was immediately contacted, and assistance was called from Flatbush & Williamsburg Shomrim.
Volunteers began walking the streets and began knocking on all doors in the surrounding blocks. Shomrim members continued ringing every bell until one person came to the door and checked his neighbors home, and noticed that…

WOW! BH for Shomrim! I hope this is widely publicized so parents know to add an extra lock high enough so kids can’t reach ,to be used at night.
I’m speechless. A 2 year old could work a lock? Did he climb out of a crib? Harry Houdini, you’ve got competition.
WOW! Scary! THANK YOU Shomrim for your selfless hard work. Thank You for being the right shluchim from Hashem. Just imagine had they not been at the right place at the right time.
As parents we must be prepared for worst case scenarios like this one. We must put strong locks high up where they can’t reach even with a chair or two.
A gut yuhr to all.
Unbelievable. As the saying goes Hashem watches over fools and children.
reply to #2 ye an 2 yr old child can open a lock by himself, I have an 2 yr old at home & he is starting to lock & unlock the door
this happened to someone i know in the country. Super scary!!!
It’s only a guess, but he might have been showing off his talents as a shomer, hoping to join Shomrim, working the night shift.
I’m not sure if its a solution to put locks high that kids can’t reach or open. It could prevent them from getting out in cas of a fire C”VS
This is relativly normal in ramat beit shemesh. U see 2 year olds crossing big streets with their 3 and 4 and 5 year old sibling @ midnite……scary, pathetic but true
#4: “Hashem watches over fools and children”
Well said. On both counts.
#5,
You might want to consider getting one or more doorknob covers…we use them on our bathroom, front door and inside door to the basement, and only my 5-year-old can open them (not my 4- or 2-year-old). You’ve probably seen them before, but here’s an example at http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11085528
Children on a blue moon wandering from their houses could be understandable.
What freaks me out though, is the mild response too many laid-back frum paremts would give to a child that wanders. I see so many Mothers walking with their kids on the outside of the sidewalk, and their hands arent being held! I see far too much lax and incompetent pareting out there!
Ramat, the 2 year olds are crossing their older siblings?

A better solution might be a door alarm that goes off when the door opens, its cheap and easy to install.
Hoidu leHashem kee toiv…. beautiful ending.
