The preliminary investigation into the emergency landing of an Israel Air Force F-15 fighter plane on Thursday, 8 Tishrei, shows signs that a pelican became entangled in an engine, compelling the pilot to make an emergency landing in the Tel Nof base in southern Israel.
The bird’s entanglement in an engine sparked a blaze that was quickly noticed by the crew, which responded appropriately, Baruch Hashem landing and getting out of the burning aircraft unharmed.
Officials explain the pilot is an experienced officer with many flight hours under his belt, adding he acted professionally and remained calm during the emergency procedure.
An inspection of the motor revealed remains of the bird.
