Opposition leader Tzipi Livni is in England, a guest of British Foreign Secretary William Haig. This is Livni’s first visit to English since 2009, barred from entering the country due to fears of being placed under arrest.
Livni’s name appeared on international arrest warrants along with other government officials and senior IDF officers who were the policy makers during Operation Cast Lead, the IDF offensive against Hamas terrorists in Gaza. She was compelled to cancel a visit in 2009 after learning a British warrant was issued, which might result in her arrest upon arrival in the UK.
The law that permitted issuing the warrant has since been amended, passing by a very narrow majority.
