The Spin Surrounding Biden’s Pollard Comment

There is much speculation in the media surrounding the comments release by US Vice President Joe Biden regarding efforts to gain the release of Jonathan Pollard.

According to a NY Times report the vice president stated that Pollard would be released “over my dead body”, telling a group of rabbis in Florida that he remains adamantly opposed to the move, and that he dissuaded President Barak Obama from granting clemency while the president was seriously considering the move.

Attorney L. Marc Zell, who heads Republicans Abroad in Israel told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) on Wednesday morning (7 Tishrei) that the remark was anything but a slip of the tongue, but more accurately a well-planned statement made with the approval of president. According to Zell, a resident of Gush Etzion, the statement is part of the democratic strategy to keep the Jewish vote and no less important, the Jewish contributors.

Zell explained that the meeting with the Florida rabbis is part of preparations for the election, but despite the fact this was a closed meeting for prominent persons, the content of the remark was printed in the Times the following day. in short, Zell believes the president and vice president are playing good cop bad cop; that simple, setting up the president to emerge the hero in the eyes of Jewish voters ahead of the election.

Zell told Army Radio he is confident that Pollard will be released ahead of the next presidential election and he will be coming to Israel based on current political realities in both Israel and the United States today.

  1. Why do they think that Obama would be a hero in the eyes of the Jews because he seriously considered releasing Pollard, but big mouth Biden convinced him not to? That’s good???

  2. Ahavas, the article seems to be saying that Obama will release him. Then he won’t be seen as copitulating to our demands; he will be a hero for having overcome Biden. I’m not in politics myself so it’s hard for me to tell how much is going to far, in these theories.

  3. With Obama comes Biden, so by electing Obama, we get Biden too. Now that we know that he is not a friend of ours, we should make sure that both these characters don’t stay in the White House for 8 years and then will have a free rein to pressure Israel. No matter what Obama does to show he is a friend of Yidden, we have to prevent him from getting re-elected. I fear what he could do if he is in the White House without having to worry about being re-elected.
