Israel: PM Denies Diplomatic Row With Germany

The Prime Minister’s Office has released a message of calm amid reports of a diplomatic fallout between Israel and its staunch ally Germany. Tensions surround Israel’s announcement last week to build 1,100 additional housing units in the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo, a move that Germany finds most objectionable and ill timed regarding efforts to bring Israel and the PA (Palestinian Authority) back to the negotiating table. Officials in the Prime Minister’s Office blame the media for misrepresenting facts, leading to the row with Germany.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has signaled her country’s disproval over the construction decision. Merkel made her position very clear, condemning Israel’s decision to approve the construction at this critical time.

The prime minister stated that the media was way off target reporting a crisis between Israel and the White House, and the same applies here regarding Germany. Mr. Netanyahu acknowledged that there are disagreements, but this is a far cry from strained relations.

  1. The staggering chutzpa Germany regularly exhibits in its condemnations of the Jewish state’s vital defense decisions–as if German history with respect to the Jews were different from what it is–is incomprehensible.

Has Angela Merkel no shame, or no memory?
