Don’t worry, kids. All is forgiven.
New York City’s three library systems have announced an amnesty program for borrowers under 18.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says forgiving penalties will encourage kids to return to the libraries.
The Wall Street Journal says about 100,000 New York City children and teens had lost their borrowing privileges because they’d accrued fines of $15 or more.
The Journal says the New York Public Library had one borrower under age 11 who’d run up a fine of over $1,400.
The McGraw-Hill Co. contributed $300,000 to help cover the lost revenue. The company’s president and chief executive, Harold McGraw III, is a trustee of the New York Public Library.
The program runs through Oct. 31.

are you kidding? I just paid my kids’ fines 🙁
Why should they not pay? What kind of responsibility are we teaching our children and their parents who are ultimately responsible?
Maybe our kids should take out books, keep them and get away with not paying?
How ridiculous!
