Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman approved the return of four members of Israel’s diplomatic corps to the Israeli Embassy in Cairo on Monday. The move came ten days after an Egyptian commando team extricated diplomats and members of the security entourage from a blood-thirsty mob that penetrated the compound.
Israel Foreign Ministry officials report the four will be working from their homes for the time being and extra security precautions are being taken. The arrival of the four permits an unspecified number of diplomatic corps members that who remained in Cairo to return home for a break.
Foreign Ministry officials are working to restore embassy operations as quickly as possible towards ensuring normalized ties with Egypt.
Security experts arrived in Cairo a number of days ago to seek a new more suitable location for the embassy. According to a report appearing in the English al-Hayat published in the UK, the security team was operating in a suburb of Cairo, a possible alternate site. Today, the embassy is located in the heart of Cairo.
