The parking meter has expired.
The city will remove the last single-space parking meter in Manhattan on Monday, reports The New York Times.
It’s part of a process to convert the whole city to the Muni-Meter system, where drivers get receipts from a solar-powered machine to place on their dashboards.
The city Department of Transportation says the new meters are an improvement because they take credit cards and require less maintenance.
A few of the old poles will remain behind.
They’ll have their so-called “brains” removed and then they’ll be converted to bike racks.

Yeah, ,but then those lovely meter maids give out tickets while the people are putting money in the mumi meters.
ahavas thats the plan and by the way did you realize that meters are now for only 15 minutes per quarter?
don’t be so sure the meters will have their “brains” removed and be converted to bike racks. Bet you they leave in the brains and start charging for “parking” your bike!!
lol,
I can’t disagree with any of the above posts and i’ve only been in NY for 2.5 months
