As Maran HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita was heading home following cataract surgery at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim, his driver was pulled over by a traffic policeman after the vehicle crossed HaNevi’im Street.
After a brief discussion with the driver the traffic policeman understood who the passenger was and he immediately bid him a good day and sent the vehicle on his way.
The Posek HaDor underwent successful cataract surgery and physicians are hopeful the result will be a significant improvement in the Rav’s eyesight.

I honestly have no idea what the purpose of this story is. Maybe someone can clarify this for me.
Did the driver violate traffic laws? If so, Maran Harav Elyashiv would definitely not have approved of the driver’s actions. Dina D’Malchusa Dina.
Why is this news?
I agree with comment number 2. Harav Elyashiv would not have approved of a driver not following traffic laws. And again-why is this news worthy? Should we try to emulate these ways and pretend that all Jews are above the law.
And I wish the rav a refuah shelaima and a quick recovery.
The Israeli news reported that he has a permit to drive through red lights (like an ambulance) and normally receives a police escort. When the policeman became aware of this they let him go.
Isn’t it news that a mishtara has respect for a rav of mea’h shi’arim?
Reminds me of the story when R’ Lazer Silver’s Z”L car was pulled over and the driver told the cop that he was driving the chief Rabbi of the United States in the back seat. R’ Lazer know for his sense of humor rolled down his window and told the cop “and Canada”!!! I guess R’ Elyashiv didn’t have to rely on his humor!!!!!!!!!!
so the officer let the drive go since he had Rav Eliyashiv in the car. With out Rav Eliyashiv he would have gotten a ticket.
Adaraba, if some one is transporting Rav Eliyashiv he should be doubly careful when driving. The cop should have given him the ticket!!
Maybe the cop got a tip from his buddy patroling at the hospital that Maran shlit”a was on his way home. He pulled them over to get a glimpse of Maran shlit”A and get a bracha.
The Rav has G-d on his side. That’s why he wasn’t issued a ticket, or, worse, was involved in an accident on account of how he was driven.
Its nice to know that there are still some Israeli police that respect a Gadol Byisroel.
May Rave Elyashiv have many more years of Gezunt!
