United Hatzalah officials have met with the organization’s rabbonim, who decided that a Shabbos goy will man the emergency phone on Shabbos.
After touring the command center in Jerusalem and receiving a comprehensive explanation as to how calls are received and volunteers activated to respond, Rabbis Azriel Aurbach, Shriel Rosenberg and Aryeh Davir Shlita came to the decision that a goy can respond to the phone calls and in turn, dispatch volunteers.
Officials of United Hatzalah continue to pride themselves in the fact that the rabbonim set the organization’s policies vis-à-vis Shabbos, Yomtov and weekdays, and everything possible is done to minimize chilul Shabbos in all aspects of the organization’s operations. The new policy will begin on Shabbos Ki Savo. The nationwide number for Ichud (United) Hatzalah is 1221, the daily HaMevaser reports.

Not a good idea.
It is hurtful to tell any person, “God doesn’t want us to do work on the day that He rested, when he created the world; however, that only applies to me, but what You do on God’s day of rest, God doesn’t care”.
