The PA on Thursday (Sept. 8th) officially launched it unilateral bid to declare Palestinian Statehood. PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) sent a letter to the Ramallah office of the United Nations, the official representative of UN Secretary-General Bank ki-Moon, calling upon him to do whatever he can towards assisting the Palestinian People in achieving statehood.

Abu Mazen explained that following years of unsuccessful negotiations with Israel, Ramallah now feels compelled to take this step towards actualizing statehood, urging the UN leader to understand the justified demands of his people.

The letter adds that prior to the opening of the UN General Assembly on Sept. 21st the PA will embark on a number of events towards actualizing this reality, peaceful measures, in the hope of gaining the support of the international community.
