As thousands of residents continued to cope without power and the effects of flooding and other storm damage, some criticized the power company for its response.
Orange and Rockland Utilities was criticized Monday for its response. More than 8,700 Rockland customers were still without power this morning, and thousands might be without electricity for days.
O&R spokesman Michael Donovan said the utility was doing its best, noting that there were more than 30,000 customers in Rockland without power on Sunday night.
County Legislator Ed Day said O&R was ill prepared, responded poorly and hasn’t communicated well.
“Their communications with people has been nonexistent,” said Day, R-New City. “The worst thing is people don’t know if O&R is coming.”
Day said he understood O&R lost its telephones, but it did not respond adequately Monday when they came back. He said people got a busy signal when they called the company and could not report outages on its website.
