The department’s commissioner, Jonathan Mintz, has called for new laws that would triple fines for the store and require payment to overcharged customers.
“What I fear is that the supermarkets are enjoying the illegal profits of those overcharges and have theretofore decided that they will just pay the fines and not invest in quality control,” said Mintz.
The commissioner said customers need to pay attention at the checkout counter and speak up when they are getting scammed.

This article could have been helpful if it would have mentioned specific overcharges to look out for.
My experience with Shop-Rite (Ave I + McDonald) was that I found that I was being charged regular price for a sale item and was given double credit at the Service Desk (up to $10).
Later that same week, the same item was STILL being charged the non-sale price.
If you see that you are being over-charged, first pay your bill; than go to the Service Desk for a double-refund.
