A man who was arrested in Israel and accused of killing his parents in Staten Island has been declared fit to stand trial.
The district attorney’s office confirmed at a court hearing Thursday that Eric Bellucci was fit. He had been found unfit in April because he could not understand the charges against him.
An indictment charged him with first-degree murder and other counts in the Oct. 13 deaths of Arthur and Marian Bellucci on Staten Island.
Bellucci’s attorney says he is going to look over the psychiatric evaluation and decide whether to contest it.
Authorities say Bellucci fled to Israel after the killings. He was arrested at the Tel Aviv airport after trying to buy a plane ticket to Beijing.
His next court date is Sept. 8.
