He was a Rebbe year back in RJJ. His talmidim include Harav Shmuel Blech from Lakewood and Harav Avrohom Galombeck the mashgiach in the Philadelphia yeshiva.

As one who was priviledged to be his Talmid 45 years ago, my memories are of a great Talmid Chacham and Rosh Yeshiva, who always greeted his Talmidim BeSever Panim Yafos and was always concerned about our welfare.
Having also been priviledged to be his neighbor for several years and a Chaver of his sons, I join many others in extending a Birchas Tanchumim to (Yibadlu LeChaim Tovim) his sons and daughter: “HaMakom Yenachem Eschem BeSoch Shear Aveilei Tzion VeYerushalayim.”
We know that HaRav Zeidle Epstein ZT”L will be a wonderful Meilitz Yosher for his family and all of Klal Yisrael.
Who are his children?
I have heard much about this great Tzaddik, zt”l. Would anyone happen to know if he was related to the Epstein family of the Aruch Hashulchan? I always wondered. Was he a Levi?
He was a talmid of R’ Shimon Shkop.
To my knowledge, R’ Zeidel was a talmid of R’ Shimon Shkop.
When I was in Yeshiva several years ago in Eretz Yisroel, we went to visit Rav Zeidel Epstein ZT”L during The Three Weeks. I still remember the visit to this very day!! I am very saddened to hear of his passing. Baruch Dayan Emes.
why was he called r’ zaidel
R zeidel got his name because his parents lost a few children before he was born. When he was born they went to a Rav who said that they should name him Zeidel and he will be zoiche to BE a zeidle.
One of his children was Reb Shimon Zt’l the noted talmid Chochom and butcher from Lakewood. He has another son ylch”t in Lakewood. A son R’ Chaim in Monsey. A son in law Reb Twerski who is a magid shiur in Skokie, Chicago.
That is his name.

His name was Harav Avrohom Yaakov.
In the previous news piece about him being hospitalized they said that Zaidel was an actual name. I used to daven with his son and he was never called up like that.

I am sorry I forgot. He has two sons who live in Lakewood. One I think is currently in E”Y.
He was not a Levi.
His children are: the late R’Shimon z”l, who was a prominent butcher in Lakewood, R’Chaim of Monsey, R’ Boruch of Brooklyn, R’ Mayer of Lakewood, R’ Dovid of Lakewood and Mrs. Goldie Twerski of Chicago.
R’ Mayer is presently in Eretz Yisroel.
There is another son, R. Boruch Epstein, of Kensington.
There is another son R. Dovid Epstein from Lakewood.
I listed R’Boruch of Brooklyn as one son. And he certainly did learn by R’ Shimon Shkop — his oldest son was named for him.
