Christopher Piper, 26, and Jeffrey Rice, 23 were sentenced to a combined 89 years for robbing and murdering 27-year-old Alan Senitt a prominent Jewish activist and advocate to fight anti-semitism – on July 9, 2006 – as reported HERE on YW. Rice was sentenced to 52 years in prison and Piper to 37 years. Handing down the sentence, the judge, Neal Kravitz, described the attack as “a savage murder” adding that it was his responsibility to ensure the perpetrators “never again prey on innocent people”.

Hmm… At best Piper will be 63 and Rice 75 when they get out. In all likelihood, we’ll be lucky if they serve half their sentence (which puts them at 40 and 49, respectively).
I don’t see how that guarantees they will “never again prey on innocent people”.
I agree with shazam. The death penalty would have been the appropriate punishment and saved the taxpayer expense of housing and feeding these two killers.
Unfortunately, Judge Judith Kay has insured that no one in New York ever gets the death penalty.
