According to the Associated Press, copies of the now famous Nazi archive have been delivered to museums in Washington and Jerusalem, providing a wealth of information to Holocaust survivors. Six computer hard drives with of 20 million pages of documents arrived on Monday at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington and to Yad Vashem in Yerushalayim.
The AP further reported that it will still be months before it can be used, and even after it opens to the public, navigating the vast files for specific names will be nearly impossible without a trained guide.
The documents contain the names of more than 17 million victims HY”D, and fill 16 miles of shelves.
The documents were initially seized by the Allies from Nazi concentration camps and offices after WWII, but were then closed under a 1955 agreement to protect the privacy of survivors and the reputation of the dead who may have undergone humiliating medical experiments or been falsely accused of crimes.

Will the names be made public on the web?
in “bad arlin” in deutschland, under thecontrol of the “allied powers” including the us govt.
it has been said that the (political) holocaust museum in washington is using a different technology than say google, so as to make it very complicated so as to increase their fundraising (they do very very well there) though i think this is to increase the difficulty thus, in effect, limiting access (like the various govts want). for example, it will not be available on the internet (like the article says “will be nearly impossible without a trained guide”)
CBS’s 60 Minutes aired a very informative segment on this on Dec. 17, 2006, entitled “Hitler’s Secret Archive.”
