More than two dozen people involved with religious groups or centers attended the second Interfaith Security Conference at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County on Monday. The group met with law enforcement experts and officials from the Anti-Defamation League, which co-sponsors the conference, along with Boca Raton police, the Jewish Federation and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Police talked about how to handle threats such as bomb scares and suspicious packages, as well as emergency planning, security and locally based hate groups.
The state ranks fourth in the nation in anti-Semitic incidents, behind New York, New Jersey and California. In 2005, the league’s audit reported 199 anti-Jewish incidents in Florida, a 15 percent increase from 2004 and the most incidents ever recorded in the state.
