[PHOTOS & VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] Wednesday was the last day of work for Deputy Inspector Ralph Monteforte – at the NYPD’s 70th Precinct, and many people came to wish him farewell.
Representatives from many community organizations, including Flatbush Hatzolah, Flatbush Shomrim, Misaskim, community activists, as well as many high-ranking NYPD Brass, were all there to escort him out of the Precinct for the last time.
Upon his exit from the Precinct, Monteforte paused for a few moments and said a some brief words to the hundreds of people standing in formation. He then saluted, and to a cheering crowd, shook hands with every police officer standing there, and drove off with his family.
During his tenure as Commanding Officer, the precinct saw one of its steepest declines ever in crime. Due to his late-working hours, and deep personal involvement, crime kept going down, even in some well-known tough spots.
Inspector Monteforte will be sorely missed by the community, as the acts of kindness which he has done in his more than 20 years at the NYPD, are too many to number.
He is a true Ohev Yisroel, and is from the Chasdei Umos Ha’olam.
This writer can attest that not only was Inspector Monteforte an individual who gave of himself 100% to the community which he served, but he did with total devotion and extreme humility – always shying away from any honor.
YWN wishes Inspector Monteforte much success in all his future endeavours, and thanks him publicly for his dedicated service to the Jewish Community, and the entire “70 Command”.
Although there is much speculation as to who will replace him, there was no official word from the department.
