UPDATED 11:31AM EST: Possible Tornado Touchdown In Brooklyn South


t cover.jpg(Click HERE for photos) Severe thunderstorms soaked the region causing flooding, tornado warnings, power outages and mass transit delays for many New York, New Jersey and Connecticut residents on Wednesday.

A big wind went through Bay Ridge, Brooklyn knocking over giant trees onto cars parked along Bay Ridge Avenue. Residents in the neighborhood said they were awakened around 6 a.m. by car alarms, thunder and loud winds.

Multiple media reports are stating that a tornado possibly touched down near Boro Pak – in the Sunset Park / Bay Ridge area.

An investigator with the National Weather Service will be heading to the scene to determine if it was a tornado.

Although the Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens and Nassau County between 6 a.m and 7 a.m., the wind that went through Bay Ridge was not immediately characterized as a tornado.

UPDATE 11:31AM EST: Yeshivaworld is being informed that Maimonides Hospital has suffered serious damage to their buildings from this incident.

  1. The pictures here on YW are of 46th Street between 10th and Forth Hamilton Aves.

    Further damage (trees uprooted) was done on 46th between 9th and 10th.

    The chain link fence on the roof of the Pupa Yeshiva on 10th Ave and 47th street is apparently dangling down.

  2. Does anyone know if anyone was hurt on 46th Street and do they have power and phone service?
    I know elderly people who live on that block and noone is answering the phone.

    he’s from the catskills, and he’s trying to figure out how to make a tornado.

    this beats a fire anytime!!!!
