The streets were buried in snow, and these guys really cleaned up.
Department of Sanitation workers shoveled in the OT in the week after the X-Mas blizzard, some earning more than $5,000 in extra pay, according to city records obtained by The Post.
Supervisor David Timmes was the top OT earner, raking in $5,948.17 for 84 hours of overtime in seven days. Superintendent John Dwyer put in 64 additional hours, earning an extra $5,568.54.
Ten employees made at least $4,842 in OT from Dec. 26 to 31, according to city payroll records.
But none of these workers were out digging the snow — all were supervisors or superintendents
The Sanitation Department said most of the top OT earners were front-line managers. Timmes was the supervisor of the department’s satellite information center.
“He got a couple of winks and went right back to the command and control center,” said Sanitation spokesman Vito Turso.
The city’s disastrous response to the blizzard led to allegations that some workers took part in an organized slowdown.
Some neighborhoods did not see a plow for days.
About 12 percent of “The Strongest” work force of 6,000 called in sick in the two days after the storm. That was more than double the usual rate.

I find it amazing how the Politicians and Talking Heads go after the weak…the Teachers Unions and those contracts…I would like those self righteous Talking Heads, and Politicians go after the sanitation workers union or the teamsters or AFL/CIO and try to back out or cancel just one of their contracts…..Teachers should be allowed to be Teamsters or Join the Garbage collector union or the Sanitation Union..they would then have safety in their collective barganing…!
1. Actually there should NO public sector unions!!
The civil-service system itself over-protects NYC employees (simliar to US government privilege), so NO public unions are needed. Of course, the union bo$$e$ will object!
