The remains of Soviet Army nurse Lenina Varshavskaya, earlier buried at Tynismjagi Hill in Tallinn, have been reburied at Har Hazeysim in Yerushalayim. A delegation of Knesset deputies, leaders of Russian Jewish community, chief rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, and representatives of veteran organizations participated in the Kevurah. Chief Russian Rabbi Berel Lazar led the Levaya.
“The feat of the 16-year-old girl who ran away to the front to fight Nazism will forever remain in our memory. It is worthy of the deepest respect,” Berel Lazar told the participants of the Levaya.
The Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia transported Varshavskaya’s body from Tallinn to Jerusalem and buried her there, Lazar’s press service said.
