Israel Knesset member Effie Eitam, leader of the head of the Renewed Religious National Zionist party, today, call on United States President George Bush “to show the same tenacity and nerve he demonstrated in pardoning vice presidential chief of staff Lewis (Scooter) Libby and commute the sentence once and for all for imprisoned Jonathan Pollard.”
“Every president has said before that this issue of Pollard’s sentence is severely complicated, and has therefore refused to act – often after giving their word that it would be done,” Eitam said. “Yet, this act of President Bush’s today demonstrates that he knows how to get past the difficulty and to what he feels to be expedient. Pollard’s release would be appropriate, and he can simply commute the sentence.”
“The goal is no longer to dispute guilt or innocence, but to recognize that the man has paid his due and should now walk away from his jail cell a humbled human being.”
“It is the right thing to do, and evidently, the right time to do it.”

Pollard’s best shot at a pardon will be after Election ’08, before Bush leaves office in January.
I believe there is a very good chance of it happening.
wow Bush is so done with caring about public opinion. I think he just gave up on any positive legacy so he fiqures he’ll do what he wants. I respect his loyalty to a fallguy. I’m really happy for Scooter and his family. ( she’s from woodmere ny)I hope Pollard is next.
It is true that Libby and Pollard are not comparable. But I believe Bush will commute Pollard’s sentence out of personal mercy for the man.
we thought clinton harusha would pull through but of course it was a bracha l’vatala…
der eibeshteh darft helfen!!!
4get bush, we should get hillary and rudy to sign NOW (when they want our votes) that if elected they will release Pollard
I would love if Pollard was released. Al Tivtichu Bndivim.
No potential presidential candidate would ever sign that if they win they will release someone. Bush can do it now, so we got to pressure him now – When we have a new president – for all we know it can very much be not Hillary or Rudy – we will pressure her or him.
the problem is that israeli politicians are afraid of pollard. after all, he can get many seats if an election is held when he is released, since the first thing he will do is take the first flight to to israel, the crowds will definitely greet him at the airport (combine it with a nefesh b nefesh flight, and youll get half the country) and the israeli politicians are afraid they will half to put him in the govt!
