Auschwitz Gets Renamed After ‘Poles’ Complain

aus cover.jpgUnesco has approved a request by the government of Poland to rename the Auschwitz Nazi Death Camp which was officially called the “Auschwitz Concentration Camp” since the end of the WWII. Last year the Polish government asked the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) to change the name in a bid to avoid confusion over its historical origin. The new name is: “Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi German Concentration and Death Camp,”

The Unesco World Heritage Committee made the decision on Wednesday at a session in New Zealand.

Poland’s request for a name-change came after a string of incidents over the last decade in which international media have mistakenly referred to the camp as “Polish” due to its location in Poland.

Editors Note: The Polish were worse than the Nazis YM”S.

  1. I don’t think the Poles could have been worse, as in my opinion I think it was impossible to be worse than the Nazis YM”S, but they probably were just as bad. Hashem should repay them all what is coming to them.

  2. im no expert on this
my impression is that the polish did not actually do anything worse in general than the germans.
but that the poles took such disgusting pleasure and passion from humiliating, torturing and murdering Yidden.
not so much by the other animals, who were more cold, methodical, with no mercy and only mildly amused.
i believe many Yidden who were there say the poles were worse, i think for this reason

    feivel

  3. The Poles could not have been happier to help the Nazi Germans murder THREE MILLION POLISH YIDDEN. Even the Nazis were shocked at how happy the Poles were to murder Jews.

Their Ukrainian neighbors were just as murderous in helping the Nazis attempt to annihilate the Yidden.

  4. I can’t think that anything compares ,in the anals of history, as to what the Germans did.

To Scientifically; methodically and in cold blood thru all the resources of the government and the german people to mass murder every man, women and child where ever you can find them boogles the mind.

  5. psycology wise a person is never insulted by something that that they know is 100% false. if you are called a baby it won`t bother you . it must be that the name reminded them that they were also involved.

    buut were they worse?

  6. Nobody was worst than the Nazis. It has been said by many that Germans had an engrained hate towards Jews from the beginning of time which was dormant till the second world war.

Before the war when the Kaizer came to Israel there were a few Rabonim who refused to meet him for this reason. There was also the case wherethe Old Belzer Rebbe refused to get into aGerman car because he sensed the evil!

  7. Nu it’s a davar yadua that at least some of the Germans are from the nation of Amalek – I’ve heard that that’s the reason the Rabbonim wouldn’t go see the Kaizer.

  8. In the Kapitl Tehillim “Al Naharos Bavel”, it is interesting that we ask HaShem to remember the Edomiim “Zechor HaShem livnei Edom Es Yom Yerushalayim HaOmrim Aru Aru ad HaYesod bah”. Remember HaShem the Bnei Edom who urged the Bavliim to destroy Yerushalayim to its very foundations. (There are similar references in Ovadiah and Eichah)
There is a special score that has to be settled with “bystanders” who applauded our enemies. We ask HaShem not disregard them when he metes out his vengeance to our enemies.
    Bmheira BYamenu Amen

  9. the nazis ys”z always said that they were just following orders. Even Eichmann at his trial claimed that, and he ws the one giving the orders. The poles didn’t have that excuse, yet they still helped or worked on their own to kill all those yidden

  10. It seems that it’s very hard to compare the Germans to the Poles – they were both terrible beyond description, but each in their own way. The Germans were the main ones behind the Holocaust but the Poles were extremely enthusiastic “bystanders”, who, from what I’ve read, often outdid the Germans in their acts of cruelty. May they both be repaid for their atrocities, like HolyMoe said, Bmheira BYamenu Amen!

  11. Hashem will decide who was worse. What do we know? I don’t see how the name changes makes a diff. Yemach shemam v’zichram!

  12. i was in Auschwitz, you dont know what it was like taking the march down the tracks to Birkenau and seeing the smoke coming from the showers while your friends leave you one by one..the poles had everything to do with Auschwitz and killing all the jews.

  13. It is totally irrelevant who was worse! Why is so much energy being wasted on it. Everyone who reads this should say one quick perek of tehillim for the 6 million, and for the 6 million today living in Israel, and forget about discussing something that was so different from individual to individual. Gotta go say some tehillim, see you later

  14. Poles were like animals but germans were coldblooded killers. My fatherinlaw,a survivor, said that people would say about the germans that they would “politely” ask you to” please” lie your head down so they could chop it off.Like amalek the germans cooled the water to enable the animalistic poles and others to brutally finish the job.

  15. The so-called Editor note is just another example of boorishness, insensitivity and plain stupidity. The reality is always a lot more complex, never “black” or “white”, I guess this so-called Editor has never learned Gemarah to understand what real life is about.

For those of you who don’t know it (if if you don’t know such simple facts, how dare you even begin talking about it?), 3 million Poles were killed during the war (and 25 million Soviet people, predominantly ethnic Russians).

You don’t seem to realize that you can sit back and talk about the war now in America in such a relaxed manner (who was worse – Poles or Germans? or maybe Russians? or maybe someone else?) is very much due to the fact that those 3 million Poles and 25 million Russian sacrificed their lives to stop Nazis.

And if you think that we, Jews, are not to blame for anything at all, and that we can only blame others, check out (on Wikipedia, at least) a list of chief officers of NKVD, the Soviet secret police running in the 20-40s – amoung those scoundrels who sent tens of million of innocent people to concentration camps in Siberia Jewish names, unfortunately, make up an enormously percent there. And do not tell me that they were not religious – they were the sons of very religious and pious parents, including a number of well-known rabbis. If this is not a total failure and disgrace of Torah, tell me what it is.

Editors Response: “The boorish, insensitive and plain stupid editor who has never learned Gemarah” just has one answer for you. I am basing my statement on first hand witnesses – who have learned more Gemorah in their life then you would be able to learn in 30 lifetimes. He just happens to be a Gadol hador.

Oh, next time you use derogatory name calling will be your last.

  16. Altercocker,

How about millions of those Russians who spent years in concentration camps in Siberia who were (such a disgrace!) managed predominantly by Jews?

  17. My grandma said there are two peoples I am not allowed to help, unless it helps me, german and Polish, and that the Polish were worse than the Germans.

She was there, so I’ll take her word for it.

    Obierika
What happened in your life that you became such a Jew hater?

    Oberika,
Yes, many gentiles died in the war but they died as casualties of war while we were exterminated. The Nazi’s searched out every single Yid out there and sent them to the death camps, how can you compare the two.

I have only forgiveness in my heart for you; no one can blame all the yiden who went thru the war and came out not frum, what they saw and went thru will NOT be discussed here. NO ONE CAN JUDGE THEM!!!! We as humans cannot judge other humans, that is only for Hashem to do.

  20. Alter,

I admire you! How can you forgive such an insenstive careless post,? As a child of Holocaust survivors, I visited Aushwitz and Birkenau recently. I’ve seen every movie, read every book and took every course available on this subject and ‘I’ have a difficult time forgiving. You people are truly inspirational. My fear is that after the survivors pass on, the subject of the Holocaust will fade and possibly merit only one paragraph in a history book. Please, please continue to inspire this generation with your courage and stamina ‘ad biyas Goyel’. G-d Bless you.

POST NOS. 21 IS AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!

There is a beautiful clip on ‘you tube’ of Chazzan Helfgott singing Kel Moleh Rachamim for the Kedoshim at the Siyum Hashass a few years ago.

  21. Nameless:

If we had let Hitler YM”S take away that part of us, he would have won!! b”h we are only given tests that we can overcome, Hashem has a reason for everything that he does, its all part of his master plan. Sometimes some people are zocha to get a small glimpse of the master plan and they are able to see how beautiful it truly is.

The memories of the holocaust may fade but the master plans reasoning defiantly caries on. We as Jews have always gone thru hard times, sufferings, killing and driven out of lands but we are still here (what does that tell you) being a Jew is never easy and Hashem doesn’t blame those who can’t make it. The Jewish people have many qualities that the rest of the world doesn’t have; do you think it just came to us one day? No it has taken many centuries to become who we are.

So yes, subject of the Holocaust will fade just as the Spanish inquisitions and the pogroms and all the countless other times we have been persecuted, just don’t forget that the effects are in our bodies forever and will carry on for all generations until we merit Mashiach.

  22. A Jew-hater, you call me? I do not want to respond to such stupidity. You must be learning a very different Gemarah from mine, to talk this way..

I am not going to revoke what I said, I will only clarify it. My point is that none of you, not even those who went through the war and the camps themselves (and I assume that it was a true post, not that someone called himself a ‘survivor’ to make his argument more “weighty”) can really talk about it in the manner you talk about it. It is not for us to judge entire people, be it Poles, Russians, Americans, the same way as it is not proper to judge us, Jews, on the basis (and it is factual and undeniable) that many of us participated actively and enthusiastically in sending millions of innocent people to concentration camps in Siberia and other parts of Soviet Union in the 30-50s.
Only a person who has been in a situation where his life, or worse, the life of his wife and children, was threatened but he still did not bend the truth and did not join the killers – only such a person can talk about who is guilty and who is not. Churban/Shoa is a tragedy but unfortunately it is only our tragedy. It is also a very personal matter, how many times have I seen people yawning or being seemingly bored during discussions of Holocaust, you cannot make somebody feel it, it is a personal matter, not something for lecturing about or a contest with scoring points. Again, it is impossible to compare one tradegy to another but you can feel it, if it’s your own. No one will ever understand a Jew who has been through it, and no one will ever understand a mother who lost her child in a car accident. For that mother the loss of her child is the loss of entire world..

  23. obi – “…many of us participated actively and enthusiastically in sending millions of innocent people to concentration camps in Siberia…”

why are you so bent on always writing about how “evil” the Jews are (Chas V’Shalom) for sending poor sweet innocent russians to Siberia?

no, I don’t call you a “Jew hater” — I let your words speak for themselves!
