6:00AM: Lakewood Police Chief Rob Lawson has just spoken to YWN, and is urging all residents of Lakewood to stay home.
“The acting Governor has declared a state of emergency on Sunday evening, and that has not been lifted”, Lawson said.
Additionally, blizzard conditions prompted Lakewood Mayor Steve Langert to declare a state of emergency for the city.
“Only emergency vehicles are permitted on the roads, and if you are caught driving, you will be issued a summons.”
Lawson said that the township was being patrolled by the departments SUV’s – and even those vehicles were having a hard time getting around.
If you have an emergency, call the Lakewood Police, or Hatzolah – do not drive anywhere.
Chief Lawson says he spent three hours with Mayor Langert on Sunday evening at DPW headquarters to oversee the entire operation. “It’s imperative to have all vehicles off the roads today in order to assist the DPW in the cleanup process”, Lawson said.
Chief Lawson also reminds everyone to check on the elderly and infirm.
