A suspected bank robber was shot and wounded by police outside of Penn Station today, law enforcement officials said.
The incident happened outside a Chase Bank at 2 Penn Plaza. The suspect was armed with a knife, officials said. Early reports indicate the suspect was shot once in the leg by a uniformed NYPD officer.
The suspect, who has not been identified, is in custody and headed to Bellevue Hospital.
The NY Post states that the man is believed to be homeless because he appeared disheveled.
WPIX reports that the man was shot once by a New York City police officer at around 12:40 p.m., moments after he robbed a Chase Manhattan Bank situated right near the entrances to Madison Square Garden and Pennsylvania Station.
The suspect, believed to be in his 60’s, was transported to a nearby hospital. He is listed in critical condition, police said.
