After last Wednesday’s Rally, Councilman John Patrick  Julien asked that NMB’s next Council agenda include the proposition that the County hire the City of NMB to police the Donut Hole. He indicated that it is only logical that the City police that area since the City completely surrounds the Donut Hole and Miami-Dade County police need to drive through the City of NMB to get the Donut Hole. Councilman Julien said the County police lose precious time each time they go to the Donut Hole.
 
Yeshiva World and its readers with powerful letters have really helped carry the message to Mayor Alvarez that the County can and must do better. Councilman Julien’s proposal would be a great first step but the Dangerous Donut Hole still needs to be gated.   WSVN-TV reported that the Mayor said Thursday “… the incident was unfortunate, but police protection could not be increased in the neighborhood.”

Please thank NMB Councilman Julien at [email protected] for his creativity and insight to know what is best and to do what is best for both communities. In February he tried unsuccessfully to have it added to the agenda. In today’s environment there was a new window of opportunity.

The Jewish Community in and around the Donut Hole has 7 Shuls, a Mikvah, an Erev, 4 schools, a kollel and much other infrastructure. There is great concern that if the community is not gated-in soon and more people are brutally attacked, those that can afford to move, and many can, will move. The problem will be that those that cannot afford to move will not be able to maintain the shuls, etc.
 
Working together we will make the neighborhood safer
