The Jewish community of North Miami Beach, Florida is staging a protest tonight at 9:45PM in response to a shocking story which took place this past Shabbos.
On Shabbos at about 3:00PM two black males approximately 18 – 22 years old exited a late model red or maroon 4 door vehicle, possibly a Ford Taurus, and proceeded to fire more than 100 rounds from what may have been AK 47 assault rifles at a home on NE 7th Court between 175th Street and 177 Street. Witnesses said that it sounded like an air raid. Dozens of shells ricocheted over 200′ away.
As distressing as the shooting situation was, neighbors were equally concerned with the County police department’s apparent lack luster response. They felt that a 20 -30 minute response for the first police officer was despicable. A second police officer responded after that. Reportedly, one police officer said “it would be good to stay out of that area since it could happen again.”

A concerned neighbor who was trying to follow up on the shooting with the police, called the station on Sunday but had a very difficult time getting a straight answer. The county police (intracoastal station) said there was no record whatsoever of the shooting. When the officer on the phone was told that there were casings on the floor, windows shot and that the county police were on the scene for about 25 minutes, she said there would have been an incident report. She told the neighbor she “must not have the right story because if there were shots fired and bullet casings on the floor, a special team would have been sent out and the police would not have stayed only 25 minutes. Not only that but if that was the case and no incident report was filed, that would make someone in huge trouble.”
The community has called on the Mayor to respond. He hasn’t.
They have questions – they want answers.
The neighborhood is in an uproar. They have called for everyone to come out tonight at 9:45PM at the scene of this crime and protest against Mayor Alvarez’s lack of response to the community.
The local media finally reported the story TODAY – four days after the incident!! They also failed to mention in their reports any of the above mentioned FACTS. The only fact that they did mention was that the block and the blocks surrounding the home are packed with Frum children and it was an absolute miracle that B”H no one was killed.
People who care about Acheinu Bais Yisreol should contact Mayor Alvarez (even if your not from Miami) to demand adequate police protection for the North Miami Beach Community.

Was it a Jewish house ?
It was not a Jewish home. However, it was six o’clock Shabbos afternoon and there were many Jewish children playing outside at that time
as you can see by the xmas lights…no, It is one of the very few (one or two) houses on a mostly frum block with families KNH of young children. prob. 30 or so kids on a shabbos afternoon. This could have been Chalillah a horrifying incident.

The media have either incorrectly reported the story, or they were misinformed.

Woz – If you watch the video closely you will noticed that the windows are also riddled with bullets. Even in the picture above you can see one or two clearly (if you know what a bullet hole looks like). It appears to me that you are expecting to see shattered glass like in Hollywood movies. In real live it isn’t always like that. I’m not why, but it seems that you are trying to deny the facts. If the above is true, this is a very serious offense on the police department.
A friend of mine who lives nearby told me he heard the shots, and that the cops didnt show up for close to an hour!

Nobody says the story would have been less horryifying had anybody else been hurt. Why do you always jump to that conclusion?

great amount of relief that BH after all the tragedies which happened in our community lately, lives here were spared, THATS ALL!
The house is in North Miami Beach (NMB). NMB has it’s own police dept (www.nmbpd.org) The county (Miami-Dade Police) Is the sheriff’s office. A 911 call would have elicited a response from NMB police, so it’s possible that the county did in fact not have a record. it’s possible that all Dade county police units share the Miami Dade sheriff’s lab, hence the appearance of M-D investigators in the TV Clip.
I don’t live in Miami but I am appalled by this news. I sent the mayor an e-mail. It takes a few seconds, you can all do it too.

You are correct in what you say that NMB has their own police, however, if it is a major crime like this, you would have the MD police respond as well. They would have their own reports on it. As the woman on the phone said herself “if that was the case and no incident report was filed, that would make someone in huge trouble”

Taking YW’s advice, I phoned the Mayor. Well screened, the Mayor simply will not come to the phone. The call, at my request, was then transferred to the Mayor’s head Press Secretary. After mamash, a 20 minute phone conversation, I was told at length that this will be investigated to the “full length.” Per her, the JDL has inquired as well. An AK-47???? Why is their not a massive manhunt being performed???
