Tennessee: Rosh Hashanah to change runoff date


voting box.jpg[In regards to THIS story posted on YW.] The Davidson County Election Commission in Nashville Tennessee, can now officially change the date of Metro’s runoff election from Sept. 13 to Sept. 11. The state legislature passed the date change bill unanimously on Monday. The bills gives the election commission authority to hold the runoff election within 30-45 days of the regular election. The date of the election has been a heated issue because the original election date was on Rosh Hashanah.

The election commission had originally set the date for the runoff election for Sept. 13, the second Thursday of September, as required by the Metro Charter.

Metro’s regular election is scheduled for Aug. 2. The runoff election could be scheduled sometime in the first half of September.
