A vote by the NY State Assembly yesterday came too late to give Sullivan County its sales tax increase by the start of the lucrative Catskills tourism season. The Assembly voted to raise Sullivan’s sales tax to 8 percent from 7.5 percent. But the increase would have had to be approved by both houses of the state Legislature and signed by the governor by midnight to take effect on June 1.
The clock ran down amid opposition & f the Senate now approves the bill, the new rate would not take effect until Sept. 1.
