NYC – The price of cigarettes is going up and now it may be getting tougher to find a place to smoke them.
On Tuesday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg for the first time said he was inclined to support a smoking ban in city parks and beaches.
“Overwhelmingly, when you ask people in parks or on beaches they say that they just don’t want smokers there, but our health department is looking at it,” said the mayor.
A City Hall spokeswoman says there is no timeframe set on when Bloomberg may finalize his decision.
While the move would not require City Council legislation, the Bloomberg administration is said to favor that route because it adds clarity to the law.
