Los Angeles Fire Station investigated for anti-semitism

lafd.jpgA non-Jewish song played inside a Los Angeles fire station had it’s lyrics altered in an alleged anti-Semitic way – and have sparked discrimination probe within the LAFD. According to the LA Daily News, the 2000 hit “Who Let the Dogs Out?” was changed to say “Who let the Jews out?” and was played inside Fire Station58 sometime this month. The station is in the Pico/Robertson neighborhood, which has a large Jewish population.

It was not known who lodged a complaint or whether any firefighters are under investigation.

Interim LAFD Chief Douglas L. Barry, who has been reviving the department’s zero-tolerance policy for discrimination and horseplay, first disclosed the latest probe at a news conference Tuesday.

  1. The song “Who let the Jews out” is featured on other websites. A Google search for “Who let the Jews out” comes up with references to Yetzias Mitzrayim.
The Fire Department may have meant anti-semitism; it may have been a joke. Probably a little of each.
Just keep in mind that we started it.

  2. I dont belive any harm was meant. Many Jewsih websites featured this cute video. It is merely a play on the words of the song but is in no way meant to substitute Jews for dogs.
    Just my humble opinion.

  3. Big Deal! People are too sensitive. When our people do this to others in Yeshivos, shuls bar nitzvahs, etc, then it is OK?

  4. I live down the block from station 58.
The sation works hand in hand with the hazolah members in our community. they have been very accomodating in facilitating ride alongs and helping to train the hazolah members.
I am sure there is more to this story!
