NYC: President Bush to visit city today

bush car1.jpgPresident Bush will be visiting uptown Manhattan today to showcase a flourishing Harlem school. Bush will use the Harlem Village Academy Charter School as a backdrop to push Congress to extend his No Child Left Behind law. Bush will also stop at a fund-raiser for the Republican National Committee at the Park Ave. home of Steve Schwartzman, CEO of the Blackstone Group equity firm. (Please be advised that there is a gridlock alert issued for NYC.)

  1. I dont feel sorry for them. I feel sorry for us jews that have to pay up to 16,000 per year per child to private schools and its not even tax deductible! Not to mention the 14,000 you save the public school system for every child per year not in public school

  2. i’ve worked with smart blacks who have worked very hard to mainstream themselves into society and hold excellent positions in the business world. if there is a will, there’s a way and if there is no will – there is no way, even with the no child left behind act.

  3. I have yet to understand something: We know about Noach’s klalah to his son Cham. How far reaching is that? Does it mean that they have less bechirah? Are we to treat those that are intellectual with that that type of stigma? Doe sthe mishna of “Btzelem Elokim Nivra Haadam apply to them?

I would appreciate a mature response.

    Thank You.

  4. re: David Zafrani

I am not an halachic authority, but I believe in realism.

I understand the klala of Noach on Cham to be forever, and, from what we read in the secular press, it certainly seems that way, that, in general, their culture and socioeconomic standards remains consistent with Noach’s words.

As for Tzelem Elokim, I see no reason why they should be denied that privilege, as theym lichaOra, are as much “Adam” as Cham, himself, was.

  5. One major difference is that Bush is a sitting President, which, AFAIK, gives him Halachic status of a melech insofar as making the Bracha upon meeting him, etc.

Additionally, Bush, as a current politician, is of more theoretical interest to citizens than a Clinton appearance is, which is simply a political show.

  6. the former President bill clinton does NOT deserve respect

    1) he is not a baal chesed
    2) he is immoral
    3) he showed no respect for the Office of President

  7. Bush is one of the greatest Presidents this country had. Not just for the Yidden, with all the support he has given. Clinton was a soneh yisroel. His wife is an Arafat kisser. And he, aside from being an immoral pig, was no friend of the Jews.

  8. On the Bush trip to NY –

    Der Yid Says:

    “What a faker.
    This fool doesnt fool anyone.”

On the clinton trip to NY

    Der Yid Says:

“It is so sad how people can say such horrific things… …what will they have to say if they see such hateful things being said by jews? should they then not like jews because of it?”

perhaps Der Yid should change his moniker to “Dem” Yid!!!

  9. Once my Rosh Kollel told me a story about a Choshuve Gerrer chassid that lived in Jerusalem. Every morning, before davening, he would remove a picture of the american president from his pocket and look at it, and only then begin davening. Once, my rosh kollel asked him about this strange behavior and he answered in the following way. He said that every morning, before his makes his brach “she lo asani goy” he wants to look at the most powerful and influential goy in the world and rejoice that being a yid is better even than being the president. Food for thought.

  10. R.R:

Thats a beautiful story but being the most influential goy in the world comes with a LOT OF BAGGAGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES, I still think its easier and more rewarding to be a Yid.

I once spoke to a Holocaust survivor who went through the worst you can imagine. He told me that if he were to be born again, with everything he went through, he’d STILL want to be born a Jew. ITS A PRIVELEGE!!!

True, we have amore limited life but with value and honorable results.
    NOT TO COMPARE, Hameivin yovin!
