Helen Hayes Hospital, a state-run rehabilitation center in West Haverstraw, is asking the state Department of Health for permission to open an outpatient clinic in the Refuah Health Center.
If approved, the new clinic would offer physical and occupational therapy to patients who need those services, said Richard Buhowski, chief financial officer of Helen Hayes.
“The people at Refuah approached us and said there was a need for these services,” Buhowski said. “We’ll start small and see how it goes.”
Helen Hayes estimates that it would cost $1,184,768 to open the extension clinic in the New Square facility, according to state documents.
The clinic would be staffed by seven or eight Helen Hayes employees – including physical therapists, occupational therapists and clerical workers.
The hospital estimates that the clinic would have 8,000 patient visits in its first year.
