A United Airlines flight from New York to Los Angeles was diverted to an airport near Washington after the crew reported a small fire in the cockpit, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said Monday.
Flight 27 landed at Dulles International Airport outside of Washington at 9:37 p.m. Sunday, said Laura Brown, the FAA spokeswoman. The fire was contained by the time the plane landed, she said.
The incident prompted authorities to close a runway for about 30 minutes as firefighters investigated, she said.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Brown said.
