NYPD Charge Mother Pulled From Hudson

Police arrested a Manhattan mother Tuesday, just hours after she and her child were rescued from the Hudson River, as reported by YWN.

Police say Devi Silvia, 33, is charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Silvia and her 18-month-old daughter were pulled out of the water near 59th street Tuesday afternoon.

Sources say it’s believed she was trying to kill herself and the child.

Emergency workers say the little girl was pulled from the water in serious condition.

“We took her out, she wasn’t breathing, she started foaming at the mouth, pretty lifeless, so, once we got the child out of the water, we started doing CPR on her,” said NYPD officer Brian Caiola.

“She was somewhat gurgling a little bit, little bit of breath sounds were coming out I tried stimulating further breath sounds by rubbing of the back,” said NYPD detective Ben Kalinsky.

Both were taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital on the Upper East Side.

The child is in critical condition in the intensive care unit, but her condition is said to be stable.
